The ivy on our front slope has been thriving for the last 10 years but appears to be dying off this spring. Any thoughts??
Check the Ivy for signs of pests and disease. Look at stems and underneath leaves.
I suspect you may have a Scale infestation.

I know the black leaves mean the plant is over watered but my ivy still looks like it's drying out and leaves are falling off. How do I make plant healthy again?
Your Ivy plant likes to grow in bright light and the soil should dry slightly between watering.
If the plant is overwatered and the roots sit it water, root rot will take place.
Check the soil before watering, instead of watering on a schedule.
I see new growth on your Ivy, so trim away the dead material and let the soil dry out.

I received a plant while here in the hospital. The very next or 2 some of the leaves started to turn yellow. What do I need to do.
I wish you and your plant a speedy recovery. This article explains why ivy leaves may yellow:

I have ivy growing all around my house door. During the winter months, the birds sit in the ivy directly above the house door and sometimes build their nests in the ivy. Their poop falls directly on the step going into the house. It is a real mess and I constantly have to clean the step. Is there any way that I keep the birds out of the ivy. I've tried hanging really "fragrant" soap among the ivy leaves, but they just ignore it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
So many of our plant shops closed over the years in New York. There is always the farmer's market - but they are limited in the types of plants they carry. Do you know of any wonderful websites where someone can order houseplants - like the Maple Leaf Ivy or Fig Leaf Ivy? ( I used ot have Maple and Oak leaf and the plants were beautiful.) Thanks for any advice.
Do a Google search for sellers of some of the plants that you are looking for.
Try Etsy and Ebay, they are often a good source of plants.
Many home improvement stores have a houseplant section. I myself have picked up some great healthy houseplants at the same place I pick up some lumber and lightbulbs!
I live in Southern Alberta & I planted a German Ivy in a huge Planter outside with a mixture of Plants (it's Beautiful) I put a small garden trellis in it for it to climb the whole nine yards. Lol My question come time before frost can I dig it up & bring it in as a house do I use the same dirt or do I get new dirt / cut back its roots ? Put it in hanging basket ? Or should I just forget about the whole idea lol
Certainly you can repot the Ivy into a container to bring indoors for the winter.
Choose a pot with a good drainage hole and use a commercial potting soil.
Make sure the container is not too large. The roots should fit nicely with a few inches extra around for growth. A container that is too large can lead to root rot.
You may also want to treat the plant with Neem Oil, to make sure your don't bring any pests indoors with you.

What is causing these reddish-brown spots and withering leaves? What can I do to stop this infestation? I love my backyard ivy that grows up a trellis, but the last couple of years these brown spots have begun to appear and keep growing across the leaf until it withers and dies. Someone told me to spray with a soap/water mist. Do you know of anything I can do to combat this and save my ivy?
It's difficult to say if this is a bacterial or fungal issue.
Remove the leaves and discard.
You can use a fungicide treatment.
