We have some sort of small wasp or bee under our cedar siding which we haven't been able to get rid of with sprays. I thought they might not be biting bees but I was stung this morning. What kind do you think they are (about 3/4 inch or less) and how do we get rid of them? They are right by our water spigot for the garden.
I suspect that they are not bees, but wasps, like yellow jackets, that look very similar to bees. Regular bees are not aggressive, while wasps tend to be aggressive. If they have established a nest near that area, it may be best to seek out a professional to help remove them so no one else gets stung or hurt. What can I do to get rid of nematodes?
If it is nematodes, there is nothing that can be done to help the affected plant officially, but I would give neem oil a try. It affects many types of pests and might work on these. Also, good soil can help reduce the rate of the nematode spread and can slow them down in terms of the damage they can cause.
I would have an extension service verify that it is indeed nematodes before doing anything beyond what I just mentioned above.

What is the name of the little green bugs that show up in the fall in Alberta? They fly and swarm. They are attracted to light colors. I thought mostly yellow, but they seem to like light blue and grey and white.
I'm not sure with this description. You can send us an image and this will help with identification.
This insect I've seen in my yard looks like a giant ant. It's red, black, and about 4 times the size of little black ants. Would you happen to know what it is?
Wow, this could be a lot of insects. That being said, here are two possibilities (based on your zone) that I came up with:
If it's red, black and fuzzy, it could be the red velvet ant: http://www2.ca.uky.edu/entomology/entfacts/ef442.asp
Some types of fire ants can get quite large and are both red (up front) and black
How do I get all the bugs, spiders, etc. out of my plants before I bring them inside for the winter? Thanks for any info.
You can hose it down well with water and cut it back by up to 1/3 before bringing it indoors. Neem oil is a good treatment for any pest issues that you may have.
How may I eliminate nymph and adult grasshopper in my garden now? Grasshoppers are eating my pepper plants. I will apply Nomesa Locustae after solarizatiom in the spring (in my area, that would be February). I would like to plant my winter veggies (brussel sprouts, broccoli, cauliflower, Napa cabbage, onions, and garlic) but am afraid to plant with the grasshoppers so active.

We just purchased a home in Big Fork, Montana. My daughter and her family are there now and we anticipate moving in the next few weeks. This morning she found about 90 tent worms in the basement apartment, which is where we will be living. This was after she vacuumed a few up last week. This is 4 days later. How do we get rid of them and where shall we check to see where they are coming from. There were "nests" in 2 fruit trees just prior to my daughter moving in. A violent windstorm on August 21 removed them. Now the worms are appearing only in the basement. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Joanne Bakker
This is a case where I would call in an expert.
You want to kill the worms safely, so the proper chemicals for a home environment should be used.
Search for pest control in your area.
