How do you keep field mice that came in your home to get out of the cold away from your plants? I noticed mice had gotten into my plants that I have in the home. Is there anything I can place on top of the soil that mice don't like to keep them out but won't harm my plants?
There are many methods to bait and trap mice both indoor and outdoors.
You can also make sure that openings are properly sealed up so the rodents can't enter the home.
A professional pest control can help with rodent control.

My curry leaf plant was infected by thrips in the greenhouse. Before I had figured out they were infected, I brought them in the house, assuming it's getting cold and they are not able to bear that. I moved them out in the conservatory and pruned the infected leaves and have been spraying them with insecticidal spray. But now I feel that I have given entry to thrips in the house and any plant get in the house I see that they immediately start sucking!!! grrr How can I manage them in the house? I am really worried as my plants are mostly in the kitchen window pane. I have moved all apart from my orchid, but I know that thrips still do exist in my house. How can I get rid of them!! Please help. thank you. regards bijal
I would isolate your plant that may be infected and treat with Neem Oil.
Neem Oil is organic and safe for people and pets.

What kind of insecticide do I need to spray my ferns and other plants before bringing them in for the winter. I am concerned about bugs as well as snakes. I have very large plants.
Spraying your plants down with a hose is a good way to get rid of bugs. If this isn't enough, neem oil is a good general insecticide that targets many types of insects.

I am not sure about the snakes, since there is no chemical you can spray to kill snakes. Sulfur is supposed to be a snake repellent, but I don't know how effective it is. Visually checking your plants is likely the best option.
I have an 80 gallon indoor aquaponics setup in a 10'× 8' room in my basement. It has two 4'×2' beds (14" deep) filled with hydroton. In them are about 8-10 various (fruiting) vegetable plants. I'm going on my second year with the same 6 fat goldfish I started it with (which I have grown quite fond of). I have red wigglers and a thriving beneficial environment established as well. I run the pump 24 hours 7 days a week. I have recently encountered a double pest problem for the first time ever: fungus gnats AND spider mites! So far I have done two thorough stays with azomax. I'm wondering if there is any other natural supplement I can use for a fast recovery without harming my goldfish and to keep this from ever getting out of hand again?? Thank you, Chad.
Releasing predatory insects or mites that feed on the pests might be the best solution. Seaweed extract can also help strengthen the plant's defenses against these pests. Unfortunately, most of the chemical controls, even natural ones like neem, are not safe for fish.

My 4 foot pm plant was infested with small gnat like insects. I tried a gentle pest control spray but was ineffective..seems like the little critters waited in the soil until the coast was clear. I put the plant out on patio then the gnats started flying around other parts of the house. My husband removed all the soil, rinsed off the plant and roots, cleaned the pot and replanted the palm in fresh soil. How can I keep the gnats from coming back?
White Fly or Gnats can generally be controlled with Neem Oil.
You can also use sticky traps.

Where can I find Bti (bacillus thuringiensis israelensis)? I repotted three of my houseplants, and the potting soil was heavily infested with gnats. I've tried Gnat Stix (in one of my plants, I laid two on the soil and within little more than a day, they were covered with dead gnats). I've tried apple cider vinegar with a few drops of dish detergent. I've tried waiting longer between watering, but a couple of my plants react immediately when they need water. Please help me. I need to know where to find Bti pesticide.
Many gardening stores carry this product. Calling around in your local area might turn some up. It looks like some brands are available for ordering online as well.
What gardening store? What sites online? I was searching, but I'm not having much luck (mainly I think because Bti is too generic a search phrase). Any suggestions? And thanks for the reply! :-)
I have an indoor trumpet angel that opens flowers at night and lets out a beautiful scent. Not sure if it's the same as down south. It keeps getting infested with tiny smaller than a pin head white bug. They spin a web and fill the web with additional bugs the leaves yellow and fall off. I have sprayed with a water solution numerous times adding soap every time a dormant oil and even added rubbing alcohol, not much as I was afraid of killing them. I even sprayed with sevin during the summer, hosed the root ball down and placed fresh soil. Been struggling for years trying to rid them. They recover and grow nice leaves and ready to start pickle flower blooms and then bugs and web material appear then buds fall off. Any help is appreciated, even performed a double treatment say a few weeks apart but hard to do in winter in Buffalo, NY area.
Sounds like Spider Mites.
I would treat the plant with Neem Oil.
Neem Oil is organic and safe for people and pests.
