My gladiolas bloomed and now they died. Do I cut the stem or just pull the dead flower off?
You can cut the flower stems off but leave the leaves until they turn yellow. The plant needs the leaves to build energy for the next year's bloom.
My gladiolus are not blooming, nice green leaves and healthy. How do I get them to bloom? They are several years old.
It may be lacking phosphorus. I would give the plants some phosphorus, like bone meal. If the foliage looks healthy but there are no blooms, phosphorus is normally the problem. This article should also help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/garden-how-to/soil-fertilizers/phosphorus-plant-growth.htm
They may also be overcrowded. If this is the case, simply dig them up and divide the plants, transplanting elsewhere.
What or how long is the blooming time of gladiolus? Once the flower dies, will it bloom again or should I cut it down?
Generally, gladiolus flowers bloom from the bottom up for 7-10 days. No, the glads will not rebloom, so once they are finished flowering, cut the stem back as far as you can. If you live in a mild area, they will rebloom next year. Otherwise, you need to dig them up and store them for replanting.
Mine last about a week from the first bloom opening. I cut the stem of blooms off then let the leaves continue until they start turning brown then cut them to about 3 inches from the ground. much like an Iris.
Is it okay to cut off the foliage after the gladiola flower blooms? I have read that some bulbs do better if you don't cut the spent leaves/flowers.
Don't cut it. It is most always recommended that you leave the foliage alone. Allow it to die down naturally, as the bulbs need this foliage for energy in order to produce additional bulbs (plants).
The leaves look very healthy but there are no signs of flowers.
The soil may have too much nitrogen. This will cause healthy leaves but no flowers. Add bonemeal to the soil to help add phosphorous and balance it back out.
Do gladiolas bloom more than once each year?
No, the glads will not bloom again in the season.
Mine don't and I haven't heard of any repeat glads. Maybe some day they will develope them.
When they produce flowers and die, we have new pods on our stalks. What are they? Will they re-bloom?
