Hello, Hope you are doing well! I am contacting you on behalf of my school Magee Secondary School Ennovate Club. This year we decided to bring organic liquid fertilizer to our school and community gardens. We had a few questions and it would be amazing if you could provide us with some answers. - About how much fertilizer do you guys add to pot plants? - Do essential oils diluted into fertilizer harm plants? - How do you guys contribute to the prevention and mitigation of climate change? We really appreciate your help, thank you for your time! We hope to hear back soon.
Follow the directions on the package of organic fertilizer you purchase for the correct amount to add to your pots. Essential oils are derived from many plants. There is no need to add essential oils to the plants.
We provide free gardening information and are not an advocacy group.

when i go and try to find information on application rates for soil amendments and fertilizers, I usually get Lbs. per 1,000 square feet. Presently, I do not have near that much square footage that I am gardening. How do you calculating the rate for smaller square footage? Say less than 100 square feet.
You can, simply, divide 1000 by 10 to get the calculation for 100 square feet! So divide the rates by 10 to get what you will need for that space.

An all purpose balanced fertilizer like 10-10-10 in a slow release form is often recommended. You can also look up certain plant varieties on our website for specific fertilization tips. A soil test is always the best bet because it tells you exactly what nutrients may be lacking. Your local cooperative extension can help with a soil test or you can buy kits.
Here is general info on when to fertilize:

I am a organic gardener. I have a question on about DIY homemade fertilizer and need your expert opinion. I request the total NPK value for the below mixture, so that I know what amount of NPK I am adding to the plants. Thank you for your valuable time. This is the fertilizer blend: 1) Composted cow manure 2000gms or 4.4 lbs ( taken from 1 cuft bag which has NPK value of 0.5-0.5-0.5 ) 2) Worm castings 2000gm or 4.4lbs ( taken from 6lbs bag which has NPK value of 1.25-0-0 ) 3) Bone meal 1000gm or 2.2lbs ( taken from 3lbs bag which has NPK value of 6-8-0 ) 4) Neem cake powder 1000gm or 2.2lbs ( taken from 5lbs bag which has NPK value of 6-1-2 ) 5) Mustard cake powder 1000gm or 2.2lbs ( Donot know NPK value ) 6) Karanja seed cake powder (Pongamia Glabra) 1000gm or 2.2lbs ( taken from 5lbs bag of NPK value 3.5-0.5-0.5 ) Thanks
Since you have most of the values, just add the available Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium for each amendment. When you are using only half the bag, divide the elements in half.
Question i put on my tree and fruit tree's food spikes two times a year, first march and september please let me know if am doing this right,my zone is 9a
You don't say what type of tree you have; different trees require different feeding. If it's a fruit tree, here is information about using food spikes. If it is not a fruit tree, search our database for the type of tree at http://www.gardeningknowhow.com. You can also ask your local extension agent who will be well versed on the trees in your area and how to best fertilize them.
i used this two times a year in March and September. Let me know if I'm okay or i need to change the month.
