I have two 6 foot wild elderberry trees in our yard and I just noticed that at least 25 of the branch tips were broken off with the tip left hanging. These are high enough up so it isn’t deer, and pretty evenly distributed throughout the trees. The broken off part is anywhere from 3” to 18” long. Are there any pests who do something like this to elderberries or is it most likely due to recent storms? I’m in northwest Louisiana.
I would assume that it is storm damage. I had damage to my plants as well, but it didn't get anywhere CLOSE to as bad as your area.
It won't harm your plants. They got "pruned", essentially. They will recover, and grow back bushier because of it.
I transplanted 3 Elderberry bushes last year, and did get new growth from them. This spring they started to get new growth then or 2 of the bushes the leves have turned purple and I'm not seeing any new growth. the Third bush is still green with new growth. Can someone tell my why this happened and if I can save them?
This will be difficult to address without a photo. If you can please include one, I will be more than glad to help.
In the meantime, this article will give you more information on the care of these plants: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/elderberry/planting-elderberry.htm
found some sad looking elderberry bushes on clearance at the local HEB (grocery store in Texas). decided to take my chances as they were $2 a piece. Problem is, I have no prior knowledge on growing elderberries! Any tips and info would be greatly appreciated. Excuse the messy patio garden in the background.

well but should I keep green leaves cut back to force energy to the roots?msa3d@yahoo.com
Cuttings from the elderberry should only be taken from young branches that have not gone woody yet. You do not want all of the leaves removed. You should leave the top two or three or the cutting is likely to fail.
This should also be done much earlier in the year.

My black lace elderberry hs growing to large, can I cut it back to ground level
It will not likely kill it, but it might not fruit for a few years if you do this. I would completely cut out some canes, while leaving a few to produce. They need this old cane to fruit properly. dormant. Why is it not growing? It is a small plant. The plant is a nice red but does not seem to want to grow. It has been watered regularly when planting it, compost was added. The plant gets shade as well as sun.
I'm including a few links to help you access the care.
You may want to have a soil test done to see if some amendments are needed.

I planted about 6 elderberry bushes, and 2 have fruit on them and the rest do not. They get sun through out the day. The 2 that produces berries are on the end, the others behind them.
You may want to start with a soil test; this will let you know if you can make some soil amendments to fix the issue.
