My friend has a lovely crape myrtle with flowers that are red with white edges. Can I propagate it from seeds or do I need to root cuttings. I have not been successful with tip cuttings in the past.
Seedlings may not be true to color.
Try taking cuttings in the spring, I don't know about root cuttings, not a common practice.

I have recently seen a very interesting, low-growing crape myrtle of a deep red color. It's probably no more than 18 inches tall by about 2 feet wide. Does anyone know what its name might be? Thanks
Maybe the miniature "Sacramento".

I have a crepe myrtle which is growing into a tree but I want to keep it shorter. How far back can I cut it without ruining it. It must be about 10 feet tall now and has bloomed already Also can hydrangeas be transplanted and what is the best method for doing so? I live in central New Jersey. Thanks in advance for your advice. I thought I had sent this previously but maybe you never received it.

We cut a root several feet from the tree when digging a trench last year. This spring the tree did not bloom but a vast amount of new growth is shooting up from the base of the tree. Will the tree (30' or so) renew next year or should we allow the new growth to continue and hopefully create a new tree?
Yes, this was likely damaged when the root was cut. The old shrub will not likely recover anytime soon.
You will want to select a new cluster, or single branch to become the new shrub. Keeping this shaped will require constant pruning of the basal shoots until they stop forming. This could take a year or more.
You could also leave it to grow naturally, but it will become quite unmanageable and prone to disease if left this way.
My Crepe Myrtle is about 12 years old. It looks as if the leaves have been dipped in oil. They are drooping. Help? What can I use to fix my tree? I can send a picture but the tree is planted at the church as a memorial tree in honor of my daughter. it is a lavender one and did not bloom this year.
The problem seems to be a mold issue. Luckily the problem tends to resolve itself over time. Sooty mold will commonly affect crapemyrtle. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/crepe-myrtle/crepe-myrtle-tree-problems.htm
will crepe myrtle tree survive in a container outside winter months in zone 6?
There are several varieties of crapemyrtle that will survive in ground in your area. In container they will likely survive as well, however, if you are concerned about those really cold nights, then You could also bring them inside if they will fit. Otherwise, put them next to a south facing wall, or mulch them well. My lavender and white crape myrtle only are coming back from roots and not the branches like the other crape myrtle that I have please help
It is possible that the primary stem and foliar crown has died back for some reason, water deficit (drought stress) is very common. But the lower trunk and root system is still viable and putting up suckers. If you select one sucker, in the highest position on the stem, to grow up and become the primary tree trunk, it may or may not develop as the same cultivar with flowering characteristics as the parent tree. You can water, wait and see, or replace with a new tree.
