Few questions. My crepe myrtles seem to grow taller every year. How far back and when is the best time to prune them? Also when my garden was established back in 2010, the 2nd crepe myrtle was planted where it doesn't get much sun and, therefore, I don't get flowers. Is it possible to transplant a crepe myrtle? I also have hydrangeas which have the same not enough sun problem. Can they be transplanted and what would be best time and method to do this? Thank you and I look forward to your reply.
The trick is digging a root ball that's 2-3 feet in diameter and at least a foot deep so the plant comes away with enough roots to grow. Dig when the soil is moist, so the soil will stick to the roots. Fall is a good time to transplant, or during dormancy.

We bought a crepe myrtle potted plant in hopes to plant in fall. The leaves are turning yellow. We water daily. Do we need to get the planted sooner? Is there a good fertilizer for crepe myrtles we should be using?
A container tree may need watering twice a day if temperatures are above 80 degrees F.
Yellowing leaves can be due to watering issues; too much or too little, pests, disease or stress.

How do I get seeds from my crepe myrtle?
As the petals drop from the blooms, green berries soon take their place. When the weather cools, the berries turn into seed heads that turn brown and dry as the season progresses. Each dry seed head holds brown seeds measuring about 1/4 inch in length. While the seeds are easy to gather, hybrid varieties might not create a plant identical to the parent.
After normal bark peeling, saw many small bumps, whitish,up and down on trunk that was underneath, plus a long wound on the trunk
It appears your tree may have had an injury; either mechanical or perhaps from sun scorch.
I could not find any information on the bumps that appear on the trunks of your trees.
Are the trees showing any other signs of stress? Yellowing of leaves, leaf spots?
I would show the image to your County Extension Office, they may have information on local issues with Crepe Myrtle.

This spring I was pruning my lilac & pruned the dead shells of the blossoms from last year on my crepe myrtle. Lo & behold I had not one new growth blossom this summer from the crepe myrtle!!! What happened & will they ever grow back?
Crepe myrtle blooms on new growth, so you probably accidentally removed the buds that were going to produce the new growth and flowers this year. Avoid pruning too late in spring, and your plant will go back to normal next year.

When we planted a crape last year the tree (7') had some blooms. This year the tree looks great, very healthy leaves, but we had no flowering. We live in NJ, Zone 6. Did we do something wrong or do they sometimes skip a season.
