As the petals drop from the blooms, green berries soon take their place. When the weather cools, the berries turn into seed heads that turn brown and dry as the season progresses. Each dry seed head holds brown seeds measuring about 1/4 inch in length. While the seeds are easy to gather, hybrid varieties might not create a plant identical to the parent.
