I was wondering why one of my tubs had no spuds. I dug around in the tub and can find no sign of ever having been planted. Too much shade, too much water? In the tub I took any potato parts out, replanted whole eyed spuds, covered with some dry compost, and moved tub to sun to dry out more. It had been raining and where they are is shady til PM. Got lots of bottom holes for drainage. With the tub soil drying in the sun, should I be OK with the new spuds? First year growing in tubs. Thank you so much! Willie Mojave
Did you lose your plantings to an animal? Squirrels could be the reason you have no potatoes.

We added sawdust to our potato box this year and it would not grow. In the past, this box grew well until we added the sawdust. How can we fix this? Thank you!!
It is possible that the sawdust came from wood treated with a toxic material which is harming the plants, or that the quantity of sawdust is too high and is reducing the fertility of the box.

Can I plant multiple layers of seed potatoes in a tall 55 gallon barrel that is prepped with drainage holes, rocks for drainage, soil and then the seed potatoes? Will planting in layers increase my yield or cause more problems when fighting for space to grow? Thank you.
