I have a small greenhouse for my camellias. They are all doing beautifully, except for one. My Tomorrow Park Hill camellia had huge buds, which have all dropped before opening. I've noticed some dark, sooty substance on some leaves. Is the plant able to be saved? Should I remove it from my greenhouse? Could whatever is causing the bud drop spread to other plants?
This is sooty mold. It is a byproduct of a pest infestation, likely aphids or scale. This article will help you with getting rid of it: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/camellia/sooty-mold-on-camellia.htm Neem oil can help as well. In addition to treating whatever pests may be affecting the plant, it is also a good fungicide. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/problems/pests/neem-oil-uses.htm
The leaves on my camellia have a sooty deposit. It will not wash off. Any ideas what it is and how can I get rid of it?
This is called sooty mold, which more often than not is brought about by some type of pest, like aphid or mealy bug. I would recommend neem oil. We have found it to be very effective against these kinds of pests and will also help treat the sooty mold. My camellia shrub has black moldy leaves with yellowish flat bugs underneath. I have sprayed them but with little effect. Please advise or do I just dig it up and get rid? Thank you.
The black mold is sooty mold and the result of the pest, which is likely scale. Neem oil can treat both. These articles will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/scale-bug-how-to-control-plant-scale.htm, https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/problems/pests/neem-oil-uses.htm
I have two camellia bushes which have grown too tall and want to know whether I can cut them right back. Failing that, is it easy to move them? They are quite mature and tend to get brown leaves as the summer goes on.

We planted a camellia in late spring. Has grown on well, leaves are healthy and glossy. Plant seems in good health but although lots of healthy new growth, this appears to be leaf growth and there is no sign of flowers. Soil is acidic. (when planted there were only about 10 flowers showing but we thought this was because the flowering season was almost over.) Any ideas?
I would add phosphorus to the soil. A lack of phosphorus will cause a lack of blooms.
My well established camellia bush has developed a black powdery covering to its leaves. I can scrape the black off or brush it off, and underneath the leaves are dark green and glossy still. Can the plant still photosynthesize or will I have to clean off every leaf (it's a large bush), and what is causing this?

My camellia has developed a thin black crust on its leaves which looks like soot and is sticky. The leaves are now dropping. Blooms seem ok. Have you any idea what this could be and, if so, how do I treat it, please?
