White Calla Lillies have been blooming for many, many years here in Lewiston, Idaho. Planted on north side of house. This year there was leaves but no blossoms. Could it be that they need to be divided or some kind of fertilizer used on them next Spring? Very tall, about 3-4 feet high, beautiful white lilies....but this year, only leaves. Would appreciate very much any helpful info. Eleanor
There are a few common reason why they refuse to bloom. The most likely is that there is too much nitrogen in the soil, or not enough potassium and phosphorus. There are several other reasons discussed in this article: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/calla-lily/make-calla-lily-bloom.htm
I live in Olympia, WA. Do I need to dig and store calla lily rhizones over the winter?
No, they will survive in your climate. Say Hi to my sister in Port Angeles! She has a clump she hasn't even divided in decades.
We just dug up our Calla Lily bulbs and a number of them are the size of a baseball. Can they be cut into smaller pieces, say quartered or will that kill the bulb?
You can divide the rhizomes making sure each section has an eye.

My dwarf callas grew lush foliage this year but produced no flowers. I have 4 different groups of callas which all produced the most lush and healthy foliage they have ever had. However, they did not produce even one bloom, not even a bud. What could be the cause of this and what do I need to do to get them blooming next year? They have bloomed well in the past, although the leaves were much smaller than they were this year. They are planted in sunny, well drained soil in the ground, not in containers. I am puzzled because they plants looked very healthy, just flower free.
Hello,
Thank you for sending us your gardening question. There are several reasons a calla lily may not bloom. However, if you have healthy, green foliage, it is probably not a watering issue. From your description, it sounds like your plants are getting enough sunlight. Therefore, you may wish to try a "bloom booster" fertilizer, one that has a high content of phosphorus and less nitrogen. If you want to use an organic fertilizer, you can use bone meal.

How do you know whether you are severing the rhinzone when you dig them up for the winter?
It will feel like a root cracking. Dig around them pretty far out, and shake the dirt off. Digging way past where they are growing will ensure that you do not damage the plant. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/calla-lily/calla-lily-winter-care.htm
How many days. weeks or months should you winter your tubers before you replant to a container again. Was planted from seeds I recovered from a lily plant last year 2016, germinated this spring 2017, am wintering the tubers now. If I want to replant in containers, how long do I need to let them sleep? From what am reading I can't expect flowering until after the 3rd year so would that be next year or the year after? The tuber at present is about the diameter of a quarter, is that about the size of a normal tuber or should they have been bigger?
I would say at least 30 days, but they can go a few months. Here is an article that will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/bulbs/calla-lily/calla-lily-winter-care.htm
