I received a beautiful dark red calla lily for Mother's Day and planted it a few days later. I followed the directions for planting but within a week or so the outer leaves started turning yellow and dying and now most of the leaves have done the same. I've watered the plant and it has mulch around it and I can't figure out what went wrong. Do you have any suggestions? I'm sorry but I can't send you pictures since I don't own an iphone.
The yellowing leaves could indicate a watering issue. The Calla Lily prefer a good loamy, well draining soil that is moist. The soil should stay evenly moist but never soggy.

When doe ond cut back the leaves of calla lilies after they have bloomed for the season. Can it be done as soon as the bloom period is over or do I need to wait for the leaves to yellow and dry back?
Calla lilies have beautiful foliage, even when the plants are not in bloom. If the foliage still is green and healthy looking, let it grow as it is adding interest to the garden. Once it begins its decline, or after a killing frost, cut the old foliage off.
I live in Columbus, OH. Can I plant a potted calilly outside and what to expect if I did.

I planted my Calla Lily plant in my back yard. It gets plenty of sun and is on a watering system. Since May, when the weather starts to get really hot, the leaves are burning and the plant has stopped blooming. Is this normal, or should I put a sun filter over the plant? It currently gets 15 minutes of watering in the morning. Temps are now approaching 110 degrees. Perhaps I should do a double watering, AM and PM? Thanks, Joel..Mesa, Az.
Giving your Calla Lily some partial shade in those high temps is probably a good idea, and if the soil gets dry toward the end of the day then yes, double-up on the water. Calla Lilies like to be kept moist.

What size container would be suitable for approx10-12 Calla Lily's and what soil would you recommend please?
Likely a 10 to 12 inch pot should be sufficient for your plants, but if your Calla Lily are larger you should not overcrowd and go to a larger pot.
Use a potting mix with a pH level between 5.8 and 6.2, that contains about two parts coir or pine bark and one part soilless potting media. Select a container with a bottom drainage hole so excess moisture doesn't collect in the pot.

Had these wonderful plants for years, ordered new batch of bulbs and see attached photo. Never seen leaves take on bloom color. Normal?????
There are many different varieties available now and I have seen some with unique leaf variations.
I would like to remove some of the leaves around the flowers of the calla lilly, but wonder it by cuttin these so I can view the flower better, if it would hurt the plant?
Yes. As with most plants (there are a couple of exceptions), injured leaves will first turn brown and then die. You can continue to trim the leaf down as it dies off but that will expose more and more of the stem.
