So is it ok to order and plant burning bush hedge plants in the fall here in minnesota ? Or should i wait till spring ?
These are best planted in the spring. If you do plant in fall, it can survive if it doesn't freeze anytime soon. It is best to wait until spring for the best results.

What can I do to get my shrub completely red instead of so much Green.???
This is usually determined by the environment. To turn red, the tree will require temperatures between 32 and 45 degrees. This cool snap is what initiates the red.

Why don't our burning bushes get red all over? Not really as red as I see on others. I was wondering if it is because there is less sun where they are planted?
I think you are right on the mark. They need full sun to be able to get their brilliant red color. It also helps if the temperatures are a little cooler as well. I have a burning bush that does not get vibrant color in the fall. I trim it yearly, in the spring. Is there some kind of fertilizer I can use to improve the color?
Hello,
Thank you for sending us your gardening question. Burning bush will develop its full color only when planted in full sun, defined as 6+ hours. When planted in partial sun (either part east, or part west sun) the bush may show some, to no fall color - that spectacular red-orange that we all love. If location is the problem for your bush receiving sufficient sunlight, you may consider relocating it.

I'm interested in purchasing a burning bush for the southwest corner of my home. I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago and would like to know the optimal time to plant it.
You can, actually, plant them in the fall. It may be getting a little late, as it is starting to cool off, but if you believe you have missed the planting time then you may wait until spring.

I had planted a burning bush 2 years ago and the leaves have not turned the red color. What do I need to do?
The most common reason for burning bush to fail to turn red is lack of enough hours of sunlight. However, there are also variety differences, with some specimens not producing as much of the red color. If possible, moving the bush to a full-sun spot would be the best option. My burning bushes are way out of control and I want to do a full cutback. I was told to cut them down to 3 inches about ground level. Can I leave more than that? Also Can I do that now or do I have to wait til spring? I am here in Denver and heavy spring snow is a problem, so I'd like to do it now.
Yes, you can leave more than that, as much as you'd like. It is best to cut them back in early spring, but if you really can't get to them then, you can prune in late fall.
