I'm interested in purchasing a burning bush for the southwest corner of my home. I live in the NW suburbs of Chicago and would like to know the optimal time to plant it.

You can, actually, plant them in the fall. It may be getting a little late, as it is starting to cool off, but if you believe you have missed the planting time then you may wait until spring.
