Bird Of Paradise is a tropical plant and needs full sun and humid conditions. This can be difficult in the home environment. Here is a link to refresh you on the care requirements.

We have 2 plants that have grown to over 12 feet high. We trimmed them, but now the middle parts are all stalk and there are a lot of dead flowers and huge leaves above that. Can we cut off the plant in the middle where there is just stalk and will it live if we do that?
Does this plant grow other plants from its roots or does is have seeds
When not deadheaded, to encourage more blossoms, the Mexican bird of paradise will produce pea-like pods filled with seeds. The seeds of the plant are an easy method of propagating Mexican bird of paradise.
You can also divide the plants.

We planted a bird of paradise many years ago behind our pool screen in Orlando, FL. It has grown and spread tremendously. The new neighbor behind us says it spread through some shrubs and into his yard. We say the previous owner planted it there. My question is, can a bird of paradise spread under ground and sprout up and grow huge 2-3 feet behind, not beside it or attached to it?
Yes, Bird of Paradise can escape their planting areas by spreading rhizomes.

mexican bird of paradise. how to transplant?
Mexican Bird of Paradise is difficult to transplant, due to the long tap root.
If you do need to divide, early spring or fall is the best time.

My giant bird of paradise has leaf growing issues. Once a shoot comes in, something eats it or some disease starts browning the stems.
Hello,
Thank you for sending us your gardening question. It appears from your photographs that your plant has an insect problem. I would recommend that you treat it with a systemic insecticide that can be applied to the base and absorbed through the roots. Cut off any damaged leaves and stems. Perhaps give it a little nitrogen rich fertilizer, and your plant should recover nicely.
