Bird of paradise

Question

We have had the above plant about 6 years but it has not grown much bigger than when we first got it at the airport when we come back off holiday. It got 3 small leaf but as soon as a new leaf come one die off. This has been happening since we got it. I ask at local garden centre and give me some orchid food called Lorbex. I have use this but the leaves are dying. Please can you help us?
