Hi there, I live in planting zone 6b in Michigan, and I'm looking for an evergreen to create a privacy screen to block out my neighbor's messy yard. The area is 15 feet in length and gets partial shade (afternoon light). I'd also prefer something that grows fairly quickly, but realize that isn't always possible. What do you recommend?
My first choice would be arbor vitae. They grow fast and tall and can create a great privacy screen. Here are a couple articles that may be helpful:
e added photos is there anything I can do..
It could be winter burn. Here is info on winter burn as well as other possibilities:

Hi, I have several emerald green arborvitae trees in my yard. I have two other emerald green arborvitae trees that are turning brown, but I am not sure what the reason is. I will upload images of them. Please let me know what the reason could be.
These trees can be sensitive to overwatering, and are very sensitive to soil infections. Here are some articles that will help:

We have a shrub in our backyard and it looks like it is dying. We planted it 6 years ago when it was small and now it is 6 foot tall. We used burlap to wrapped it before winter but forgot to uncover it until June. At one side it is showing strange colour. Please see enclosed photos. Is my shrub dying?
It does appear to be infected with something. More than likely, Phomopsis Twig Blight. This disease is best controlled before symptoms progress to whole branches, but it can be controlled, somewhat. You will have to remove, very carefully, any infected branches. Discard completely, and keep any fallen growth away from the area. Continue to use fungicides to prevent its return.

Arborvitie is 8 ft. or more tall. Person placed pressure washer engine next to tree for about 2 hr. The heat from it burned the tree branches.I didn't see it until he was gone. Could it heal? Appreciate any suggestions or help. See picture. Thank you!
If this is not dead to the trunk, then it can be saved. Pruning, only, the dead growth out, and not cutting any deeper will likely help.
Here is an article for more information on how to give them the best care:

There is a row of these trees in my back yard as a property dividing/privacy line. A few of them have this same growth coming out of them, this one is the worst. Back a few months ago, I cut this all out as good as I could. It came back. Can anyone identify what it is, and what I might be able to do about it? Thank you in advance!! Ron
The picture is too far away from the trees. Can you tell if the growth is coming from your arborvitae itself or from something that is growing near the base of the trees and climbing upwards instead? From afar, it reminds me of a darn trumpet vine that I have been trying to kill for the last 20 years. :o(
I am having a small patio put in and want to have privacy. I really like Emerald Green Arborvitae and can't afford to purchase tall ones. I'm wondering how much it grows each year?
They grow up to 12 inches per year.
