Q.Is My Shrub Dying?

Zone Backard | Larry123 added on July 11, 2021 | Answered

We have a shrub in our backyard and it looks like it is dying. We planted it 6 years ago when it was small and now it is 6 foot tall. We used burlap to wrapped it before winter but forgot to uncover it until June. At one side it is showing strange colour. Please see enclosed photos. Is my shrub dying?

It does appear to be infected with something. More than likely, Phomopsis Twig Blight. This disease is best controlled before symptoms progress to whole branches, but it can be controlled, somewhat. You will have to remove, very carefully, any infected branches. Discard completely, and keep any fallen growth away from the area. Continue to use fungicides to prevent its return.
