When I pick basil from the plant to use in food, where do I pick from? Off the top most leaves or from the bottom along the stem?
When harvesting, pinch off the stem right above where a pair of leaves are growing. While it really doesn't matter, the topmost portion is usually harvested first as the bottom eventually grows up to the top where it will be harvested at some point.
I always pinch from the top. I also pinch off flowers to prevent from re-seeding.
What is the best way to move a basil plant (container) indoors after the summer?
Your Basil plants may be spent by the time the outdoor growing season ends, but you certainly can move the pots indoors.
Make sure they are pest free and provide a good amount of sunlight indoors.

I have always had a problem growing basil, different varieties. I usually buy plants and within a few days all of the leaves are eaten, at least they look like they are eaten. They're all shriveled up. I don't see anything on the leaves and nothing else in the garden is eaten.
The most common culprit for this is slugs. They love basil leaves. Read this article for some advice on getting rid of them: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/facts-about-slugs-and-how-to-kill-garden-slugs.htm
I have several houseplants that are losing healthy leaves and the new growth is very stunted. I have noticed bugs on some of the plants in the soil after I water them. Also, any ideas how to get rid of white flies? They are on all of my outside pots of basil.
I have new basil seedlings. For the first pinching of leaves, do I pinch just above the first immature leaves? Or should my first pinch be above the first full set of leaves?
How do I keep Iguanas from eating my flowers and herbs... loves the basil. We are in a Marina and do not have the option of removing sidewalks or putting up fences from preventing a large iguana from eating our flowers and herbs... especially the basil. Is there any type of plant (like marigolds) we can plant that will keep them away? Will a plastic owl keep them out?
I have not been able to find any plants that deter Iguana.

I have a Basil plant inside with several hours of indirect sun. Many leaves consistently shrivel and die. Am I overwatering? I water about 1/2 cup every 2-3 days. Thank you.
They sound like they are being overwatered. This is either causing damping off or root rot. When you plant, make sure that you use a container that drains well and only water when the soil on top is dry to the touch.
