Q.Picking basil for use

Anonymous added on June 30, 2015 | Answered

When I pick basil from the plant to use in food, where do I pick from? Off the top most leaves or from the bottom along the stem?

When harvesting, pinch off the stem right above where a pair of leaves are growing. While it really doesn't matter, the topmost portion is usually harvested first as the bottom eventually grows up to the top where it will be harvested at some point.

I always pinch from the top. I also pinch off flowers to prevent from re-seeding.
