When to Prune Fountain Grass

Question

I’m in San Diego and my red fountain grass is almost 6′ tall! That sounds great but it is so tall that a lot of it is laying down, and is so sprawled out that it is not very attractive. Just looks messy. This is October, should I just prune the stuff laying down?
