What can I do now to keep a dogwood tree healthy that’s looking sickly? There appears to be a number of dead branches on the tree.

The dead branches - is only one side of the tree affected? If so, it could potentially be verticillium wilt disease, which dogwoods are susceptible to. Here are some articles for your review:
