Everywhere I weedeat my zoysia grass is dying
Are you using a mechanical weed mechanism?
You may be trimming down too severely and damaging the turf roots.
Hand pulling the weeds or even using manual weed trimming tools may be best.

We have a zoysia lawn at our current home, but will be moving into a new construction home in November. Can I transplant zoysia plugs at that late in the year, or can I take plugs from our current lawn and hold them until spring for re-planting? Thanks, Bill
It is likely that its a little too late in the year, given summer is coming to an end, as these plugs might not have time to get established well enough. Now, on the other hand, taking some indoors until next spring can be a good idea, simply because then you know you at least have some well established plugs. You might even think about doing as many as you can keep up into some 1 gallon pots,or bigger. Just to have some to either plant as is, or to split up into smaller plugs. What is the best month to seed or plug zoysia grass in Florida
Since it is a warm-season grass, plugs should be planted in late spring/early summer when the soil temperature has warmed to 70 degrees. The Florida Extension Service has details on achieving success with zoysia grass and the different varieties which are available. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/lh011
I planted zoysia(emerald)plugs 1 foot apart in a diamond pattern. The plugs are doing well, but they aren't spreading out. The soil is sandy and well tilled, but in direct sunlight. Should I wait or can I over seed for better results?
It would definitely be faster to put out more plugs than you originally planned, however, eventually they will take over either way. Make sure to keep this grass evenly watered for the first two years, and it will speed up the process a little.

Hello - our gardener recommended Zoysia grass for our lawn. I did not think to question him as I read about Zoysia generally - I did not realise he meant zoysia tenuifolia - which a website says is the one zoysia that should not be used for a lawn. We dont use it very often but it is a flat area in the centre of the garden. We had it rolled out and 5 months on it is starting to really clump/becoming bumpy. Can we take a roller and try to flatten it a bit or would that damage the grass? - Also - it has gone dark brown with appears to be seeds on top of the green grass ...is this normal? Any advice on how to make the zoysia as flat as possible?! We are in the south of Portugal. Thanks!
I don't think rolling it would hurt it in any way. It sounds like you have a fungal issue in the soil. Wettable sulfur can usually take care of the issue. The zoysia will be hardy enough to repopulate in no time. Here is a collection of articles for more information on zoysia: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/lawn-care/specific/zoysia/
Hello! This is in reference to your article below. I cannot find edging that is at least 10" - 12" in height to keep the zoysia grass out of my yard. Can you please send me a link as to where I can buy this? Thanks so much! linda
Controlling Zoysia Grass Zoysia grass spreads through underground rhizomatous runners. One of the best ways to keep zoysia out of neighboring lawns or garden beds is to establish good borders. You can accomplish this by installing lawn edging that zoysia is unable to get through, such as plastic or aluminum. Place the edging in the ground at least six inches deep with another two or three inches above the ground to help keep zoysia within its boundaries.
