We had one of these probably over 30 years old and that regularly flowered and grew new stems, to the extent that the overall plant was probably in excess of 15-20 mature stems and several new ones every year! Regrettably we have had to remove it as we now have 6 grandchildren aged from 6 months to 10 years that visit us and play in the garden - the spikes on this plant can be dangerous to small children. Having dug up what we thought was everything and re-seeded with grass we now have numerous shoots continuing to grow through the lawn. Whilst not itself a problem, is there any way we can rid ourselves of these short of digging down several metres again? thanks Steve Mattos

I live in the coastal Pacific Northwest. My decades-old yuccas bloomed this year as usual. Though the spikes are normal sized, about 4 or 5 feet tall, they seem to be too heavy for the plants, and all are leaning, some to the ground. Is this a consequence of too little water (the other plants in the area don't seem to be suffering), or inadequate pruning? I thought of cutting the spikes and cutting away the old leaves, in the hope of having better result next year.
Check on the soil moisture. Overly wet soil can cause root rot.
In this case though, I think the flowers are just simply heavy and the plant may need some additional moisture.
This really is quite stunning, even bending down!

What are the little brown pods on the yucca stalk after the flowers die
The plant has produced a seed pod.

We need to trim or remove a couple yuccas behind our house. Do we buy a pole saw? I don't have anything else long enough to get close to it so I don't get stabbed by spikes. My spade didn't work because it couldn't cut it. Any suggestions?
Carefully, trim these leaves off with a sharp knife or shear.
Use protective gloves, long sleeves and eye protection!
I am worried about our mature yucca trees. The stalks look like they are being chewed on rapidly, since they fall off green and there is no rotting. They flowered in the last few years, and I don't notice any signs of bugs, but I want to be on the safe side. Any indication of pests like weevils, or maybe just some critter living up in the tree?
There are a few different pests that may be the issue.

How do I go about growing yucca plants from the seeds in the pods on the top of the stalk of my yucca plants?

They sure are. Here is an article with more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/foliage/yucca/yucca-seed-pods.htm
