The patch is mostly under a tree. Any ideas?
Have you dug any up to see if they have a bulb? If it has a bulb it could be the dreaded wild onion. If it is, get rid of it quick. But you would smell the onion if that is what it is.
Does it bloom? Wild onion has a cluster of white flowers.

The woodland is very bare when the wild garlic finishes flowering
Wild garlic blooms in early summer so you need a late summer or fall flowering plant or one with attractive foliage such as hosta or coral bells. Hydrangea usually blooms mid summer.
