My daughter is trying to grow her first raised vegetable garden... What advice do you have for her watering her new plants. She lives in Oklahoma City, OK
I use a moisture meter I bought at a local garden center. Buy one that has a long probe end on it so you can check the soils moisture down into the root zone. I push mine into the soils as far as it will go in 5 or 6 locations. The readings will tell you if there is good soils moisture or not. After a few testings, your daughter will be able to see how well the soils hold moisture and how often watering is needed. Loose free draining soils will need to be watered more often.

The growing season in our neck of the woods has been very dry. Water is expensive and so we've been using previously used indoor water for water. I've gone "green" by using vinegar in laundry instead of soaps. Since a machine load of water would only include about 1/2 c vinegar would it be safe to use on veggie plants? Thanks. :)
There have been no proven beneficial effects for plants. However, it has other uses.
