Just dug up some tulip bulbs. Can I replant them now where I want them to be next year or should I try to store them until fall. how should they be stored?
I would plant them right away, though it may be a few years for them to recover.
You can also store bulbs, though if the foliage doesn't die down naturally or their life cycle was disturbed; they may not bloom for a few years.

When is the best time to plant tulip bulbs?
The best time to plant tulips is the fall.

Can we pluck the tulips and bring them indoors? Our tulip tree is very old and blooms magnificently. We would love to bring some indoors. Thanks! Katherine
Yes, you can cut and enjoy the flowers indoors.
Use clean water and adding a floral preservative can extend the life of the flower.

I thought I had planted tulips last fall. They grew nicely this spring. This past week, we have noticed 2, 3, and even 4 buds on every tulip stem. What did I do wrong? Are these not tulips? I did spray deer/rabbit repellent on them, because we had some critters who nibbled on the tasty sprouts early on.
There are many varieties of multi head Tulips. This is likely what you planted and you did nothing wrong!
Each bulb flower can carry from 3 to 6 flowers per stem!
Enjoy the many flowers that you will have from these bulbs, and the envy of your garden friends who will want to know where you got those bulbs!

I noticed that a leaf from the tulip had taken on the colour of the tulip flower. Is this rare?
The former owner of my house in Connecticut planted bulbs in odd places and I want to move them. When is the best time to dig them up? Where and how do I store them or do I plant them now in the places where they will look much better next spring? I want the bulbs to stay as healthy as possible and have a cool basement/garage with storage space for them. Please advise me what to do and when to do it. Thank you. Christine H.
The best time to move them to their new location is fall. Simply dig them up and plant them directly where you want them.

You will want to dig them up before the first frost. Remove any soil and you can place them in vermiculite or the like. I have used old panty hose and put the bulbs and vermiculite inside the legs and hung them in a cool, dry, dark place. Not pretty but it works. If the Garage/Basement isn't heated they bulbs should be very happy in a cool, dry place with little to no light. Check with you local farm bureau. I have to dig both daffodils and tulips and place them in the fridge for a few months to give them a good chill as I live in Southern California. Enjoy your garden.
A chipmunk is digging up my bulbs, so I finished the job and dug them all up...but there are a lot of little ones too. Are the little ones viable? How do I keep them until fall? ( it's summer here now and all the leaves have died back. )
Damage or soft and mushy bulbs should be through away.
