a thick hedge quickly. I need a hedge quickly to block out the south westerly winds and also for privacy. I would like to know how far from my property line at rear of garden ( I do not have neighbours in the rear only on either side of my home) should I plant the green giants? I have a garden that is 132 feet wide and at the moment have ten 3 foot trees in tubs. How much water should I give the trees in the tubs until I am able to plant them, they are all in my garage at the moment at the weather has been very very windy so I have not had them outside for 2 days. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.
Keep them moist but not wet till you get them planted, then they need to be watered frequently the first few months to help them get established.
Since they can grow 20 feet wide, allow about 8 to 10 feet between them and from the property line. You may like them staggered a bit rather than in a straight line.

My male dogs have recently decided my arborvitae transplanted trees need extra watering, can/will they survive?
Dog urine can cause injury to arborvitae. The salts in the urine can burn the foliage. Rinse the plants right away if you are able.

I'm having a hard time with keeping evergreen interest in my cottage style garden. Tatertot thuja would be perfect, however I can only find starter plants (4.5" tall). They take roughly 2yrs to get to mature height (2') is there any way to make them grow a little faster (more like a year and a half) or do you know of anywhere I can order almost mature sized tatertot thuja? Thank you for your time!
No, unfortunately, that two year period is what you will expect if the shrub is cared for perfectly. In fact, it is likely that it can take slightly longer depending on the care. As far as where to purchase- We do not recommend specific places.
We can, however, offer a collection of articles that will help you with the care of Thuja shrubs:

Hi. My Thuja Plicata ATROVIRENS hedges are browning. Planted in May, are young hedges about 1m high. Should I cut out the brown leaves? What can I do to stop the browning please?
You can prune out some of the brown, but do not cut back to the bare trunk or branch. I would, also, treat with a copper-based fungicide. I suspect that this is Twig or Leaf Blight. Both will require anti-fungal treatment.

ad side? I do believe Thuja's grow back on dead wood not sure in this case and how long it will take.
Generally, evergreen branches don't grow back, but I have read that sometimes thuja will. Try cutting the dead wood off and see if new growth returns.

I made a terrible mistake…this spring I spread garden lime around my young 1 1/2 year old to 3 year old Giant Green Thujas and Northern White cedars when putting in some fertilizer sticks…this has killed half my trees…question…can I replant new tress in the same spot as the dead tree? I wasn’t sure if the soil would still be less acidic and therefore not good to put a another tree in the spot and kill the new tree as well. thanks…
You can make sure by doing a soil test. Then you will know if the soil needs any rectifying before planting new trees.
