I have planted several lots of Swiss chard. Some get to a stage where they can be planted out. Carefully planted some out under wire mesh And some slug pellets. They got eaten overnight. Kept some in the greenhouse but they all got eaten. Pretty sure it's not slugs or snails and no evidence of anything else. Nothing else is affected. Any suggestions please
It's not clear if your chard's leaves are being eaten or if the entire plants are being eaten. If you've ruled out insects, aphids, beetles, caterpillars and other such creatures, the only thing I can think of that can get under wire mesh would be rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, voles, moles or other less adorable burrowing rodents. Look for some holes in your soil.

I have a large chard plant with a few smaller plant on the main trunk. Can I break these off and restart?
I would cut them off with a clean, sharp blade rather than breaking them. Here's an article that should help:

Do we have to pluck the old chard plant and start from seeds ??
ou can continue to harvest chard until it dies back with the first frost. Here's an article with info for you:

I planted the rainbow chard in the raised bed on May 23. I grew the seeds under lights and the plants were healthy when I transplanted them. 3 days ago I noticed the stains. I though it might be fungus, the cabbage has also some outer dry leaves, but their damage is limited to a couple of leaves for plant, and the stains are light yellow, not dark like the ones in the chard leaves. I thought that they needed more water and I watered them longer for the last 2 days but the situation has worsen. They are under a screen, the soil is new, I used store bought compost and Jobe's organic 3-7-4 fertilizer. I also have cabbage, cauliflower, carrots, radishes, spinach, and parsley in the same 4 by 8 bed. What can I do to take care of this problem? Thanks for helping. This is my first attempt at growing vegetables.
Your chard problems are likely fungal or environmental. When you moved them outside did you gradually increase the light from shade to sun? They look like they have sunscald. You mention they are under a screen. Have they always been? Here are some articles that should help:

Second question Do I need to empty out the soil used in my greenhouse this summer, before planting seeds for my winter veggies? Third question I'm in Fairfield, Iowa. When do I start seeds for winter chard, etc., and what veggies can I grow in my greenhouse this winter in addition to chard? Thanks!
Likely, it is the heat, or has gone over ripe. Here are some articles that will help:

The long stem in the middle (from when the plant bolted this summer) has stems growing new, nice-looking shoots, but they don't have their own root systems yet. Can I divide these and replant? Will they grow roots?
No, the plant will be far too old to grow a root system. After harvest, the plant will begin to die off. Taking a tip cutting will fail. It is best to start over from seed each season, or every few weeks for multiple harvests.

The older leaves seem to carry quite a lot of small scales. Is this normal and edible? If not, what is it and how can it be prevented? Many thanks, Leila Evans
They are likely edible, but they are not likely very palatable. Unfortunately, your photos did not come through. I am unable to see the damage.
