Hello, What is a good short groundcover for shady area that is noninvasive and can be planted now in zone 7? Also, is it best planted via seeds or plugs?
Here are some ideas:

Ajuga and periwinkle are low growing and noninvasive.
These have mixed sun and shade:

I would avoid creeping jenny. It can be invasive. Generally, I would recommend plugs or plants. If you have six weeks before a frost, they can be planted now.
I live by a gravel road and would like a dust barrier. The road stands5 feet higher than the area that needs the trees. The area is facing S, SE and the length along the road more or less 300 feet.
Planting a windbreak will help. Here is more:

I am looking for a container and shade tolerant shrub for a balcony in Southern California.
For your balcony, consider planting the Dwarf Japanese Pieris (Pieris japonica 'Cavatine'). It's a compact, evergreen shrub that thrives in containers and tolerates shade well. This shrub features attractive foliage and produces small, urn-shaped flowers. Ensure well-draining soil, and provide occasional watering to keep it healthy in your balcony setting. In addition to the Dwarf Japanese Pieris, you might consider the Indian Hawthorn (Rhaphiolepis indica) and the Heavenly Bamboo (Nandina domestica). Both are container-friendly, shade-tolerant shrubs that thrive in Southern California. Indian Hawthorn offers glossy foliage and pink or white blooms, while Heavenly Bamboo provides a unique bamboo-like appearance with colorful foliage.
Non toxic plants for dogs to plant in pots near the pool in my lanai in Florida.
If you're looking to plant non-toxic plants in pots near a pool in Lani, Florida, consider options that not only add beauty but also pose no harm. Plants like Agapanthus, also known as Lily of the Nile, are non-toxic and thrive in Florida's climate. Another excellent choice is the Areca Palm, a popular and safe palm variety. For vibrant color, consider planting Marigolds or Petunias in pots; they're both non-toxic and can withstand the Florida sun. These plants not only enhance the poolside aesthetics but also provide a worry-free environment for families and pets. Just ensure they receive adequate sunlight and water for healthy growth.

I have a front porch that has shade and I would like to grow some potted plants which I can have year around.
You can't go wrong with different types of citrus! Most will do well in container, although dwarf cultivars are more suited for the task. They will tolerate a good bit of shade, too, without sacrificing growth. Many will grow these in container, indoors, with little to no issue.
Ferns are another choice, as they are found in shaded areas, naturally.
Vines of many sorts will grow in shade, and be a better choice for container if they are more invasive.
There are many choices, and you can find more detailed information about some of them, here:

I have elevated garden beds which measure 4x4 with approximately 14 inch soil depth. Located in full sun; zone 4 I'm new to gardening, but enjoy growing something different. Any ideas?
Hello. I have pet birds and would like to put safe plants in their cage to enjoy. Can you help me with determining what plants would be safe for them?
According to this article, parrots enjoy vegetable plants such as collard greens, dandelion greens, peppers, and chard. These can be grown in containers. Your pets' veterinarian probably has more ideas.
