    If you could include a picture, we can get an ID on the shrub and go from there. It is important to prune out dead wood ASAP as it invites infestations and disease. Look at the dead branches carefully for signs of anything that looks"off". Are there signs of a burrowing animal: one might have destroyed the root to that part of your shrub. I hope you will write back and include a photo.

    Yes, the general information applies. Although there are some articles and some Q & A issues that are specific to a geographical area. This should be obvious from the context of the discussion.

    The biggest distinction will be the "plant hardiness zone", which refers to plant tolerance for cold temperatures. So be sure to note your climate extremes and relate that to any reference to "Zone". Yours may be 5a to 6b.
