Every year I plant onions but they never seem to get big . I have tried both white and purple but they stay small bulbs. How do I get them to grow into large onions? Is there something else I need to do to make them grow large?

Happy gardening!
Does it hurt to stomp the onion tops down prior to harvest? Will this cause them to rot in winter? Does this cause any problems with onions for winter storage?
Stomping down the greens is done by many gardeners, mine own grandparents used this method.
It is best to allow the onion tops to die down naturally.

How many onion seeds should you plant together? I can't find the answer anywhere.
They should be spaced by 6". Or, you can plant in a mass in a container and thin to 6" or prick them apart and replant in the garden at about 6".
We have about 50 onion plants (I don't know what kind). They were growing just fine and then the tops began to fall over. They have not stood up again after watering and we are wondering if we need to get them out of the ground. The tops are still somewhat green but are lying down.
If they are falling over they are done.If left they will bolt.
I pull mine up and leave them on the ground to dry. Then hand them up in a cool dry place.
Not a garden pro or master gardener.Just the way I harvest.
After how many weeks or months do I have to harvest onions? I have a garden and my onions are now six weeks. Please advise me accordingly.
It's best to inspect the onions instead of rely on the calendar.
