I have a large maple in my yard and have firewood and potting soil stored near, but not touching. I have noticed that the tree is losing leaves and branches are dying. Could this be related? The firewood is replaced each season and this only started happening last year, after 5 years with no sign of change.
Firewood is only a problem with ash trees. It is likely not the wood or the potting soil. What are the symptoms on the tree? Are there yellowing leaves, spots or other things? Any details you can give on how the branches go when they die will help us identify what is wrong with it.
Deer removed the bark from my new blazing maple. What can I do to save the tree? I wrapped it with duct tape. Will this help?

We had to cut down a very large Amur Maple tree last fall. We continue to get suckers coming from the stump. How would be the best way to remove the stump since it is full of water? Roots are intertwined with the phone line.
You may need to call in a professional tree stump remover (as well as the phone company) for this one since the phone line is involved.
I purchased an autumn blaze maple and planted it at the end of August. I planted it on the west side of my house for full sun exposure. I live in Macclenny, Fl (which is Zone 9 on most maps, some show it as Zone 8). The town I live in is about 5 miles from the Georgia border. We get colder winters here than the rest of Florida 15-20 degrees in the mornings a lot. Summers still bake though. Will I have success growing this in my yard?
This tree does grow well all the way into central Florida, so you should be fine.
I have two pear trees (not the fruit kind) and one dying (I think) maple. All three trees where planted on top of a clay area. Some dirt was brought in at the time of planting, but not enough. A greenish mold grows and then the bark starts to split. This is over some time, of course. What can I do to stop this? The two pear trees are newer, and I replaced the dying maple that was there. Don't want the same thing to start with them. I live in Michigan.
The greenish mold, which is lichen, and the cracking are actually not directly related. Lichen tends to attach to stressed trees, so really the lichen appears because of teh cracking.
This kind of cracking can be caused by a few things. I suspect, because these are younger trees, that this is sunscald. This article will help you: https://www.colostate.edu/Dept/CoopExt/4dmg/Trees/sunscald.htm
I cleaned the break, dipped it in growth hormone and placed it in good soil and compost.
Sometimes this can work. But, the branch is likely hardwood, and this is a bit trickier to root. You may want to cut back some of the foliage and also create a tent over it to old in the humidity.
There are many things that can cause bark coming off a tree. Cankers are the most common reason.
