What do Magnolia tree seed pods look like
Here is a photo. They are like pine cones with red berries inside. The seeds are inside the berries. They attract wildlife to the tree for the fruits.

I just purchased a magnolia tree in a container. It has darkening leaves that eventually fall off.
This may be a bacterial blight so Neem oil would not be appropriate. Remove infected branches if you can without defoliating the whole tree. If it's not severe, it should recover. There are no chemical means to help. You may be able to return it to the store for another.

I did what you said about the cuttings but they did not take, this was several months ago. I am not sure if l took the correct pieces as your article does not exactly explain It fully, maybe a diagram? Thank you
These can be difficult, even for a seasoned gardener, to root. For this reason, it is necessary to take many more cuttings than you intend to keep, since most of them will fail.
Rooting hormone can increase your chances of success, but these are the results that you expect to see most often with this tree. For a general number on things... If you intend to keep 1 tree, I would take at least 5 cuttings, 2 trees- 10 cuttings, and so on. This will ensure that you, at least, obtain your target.

small teddy bear tree has brown leaves and not growing please help helen
Unfortunately, your photo did not come through. I am unable to see the damage.
Most Magnolia trees have brown undersides. Many grow very slowly compared to other trees. Southern Magnolias grow much faster than others, but still you can only expect 12 to 24 inches of growth per year.
This particular cultivar is meant for our Southern US climates USDA zones 6-10. Slow growth could indicate that it gets too cool in your area.
The soil must have proper fertilization and pH, as well. They will not want to remain overly wet. Any soil saturation for extended periods can have a negative impact on the tree.
This article will help you with the care of Southern Magnolias:

please. I thought weeds were growing all around the base of the magnolia but when I have dug to get the roots of the weeds out it’s actually the magnolia roots growing upward -- help please.
Magnolia roots typically grow horizontally, close to the surface, not vertically like you would think.
Here are reasons a magnolia might not bloom:

The tree is about 40 feet tall
You can grow these trees from cuttings, but you have to follow precise instructions. Good luck!
