I bought a lilac bush that bloomed nicely one week after I planted it. I don't have a clue as to where I should off the dead flowers. Should I cut off just the flowers, or should I cut off the whole stem down to the base of the plant near the ground?
If you're simply deadheading the plant, or removing the spent blooms, all you need to do is snip off the bloom itself. For all other pruning, here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/lilac/pruning-lilac-bushes-when-to-trim-lilac-bushes.htm
I need to know how best to take a cutting for transplanting elsewhere.

Why did my lilac bush have no flowers, only leaves?
If your lilacs are lush and green, but have no buds or blossoms, it might be a sign that they are getting too much nitrogen. Use a general purpose fertilizer high in phosphorus in the early spring. Lilacs like to have lots of sun, so if they’re in a shady area, they may not bloom well. Fertilize your lilacs once with the same type of formula again after pruning. Last year I noticed that the blossoms on my bush just dried up and died before they opened. This year I didn't even get blossoms. The leaves are fine and the bush looks healthy. What's wrong, and how do I correct the problem?
This can happen for a variety of reasons. This article will help you pinpoint what may be affecting yours: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/lilac/lilac-bush-not-blooming.htm
My lilac looks as though it is going to flower nicely in spring. Flower buds form and then turn black and die back. The plant looks fine but no flowers just black buds that look burnt.
It could be a fungus or it may have been thrips. Treat the tree with both a pesticide or a fungicide. I like neem oil myself as it is both a pesticide and a fungicide and is organic.
I have several flowering bushes/trees. One a mock orange, and my white lilac. I get some flowers on these tree/bushes but not many. What fertilizer should I use for next hear to make them flower?
Frequent fertilizing isn't necessary; however, you can use a general-purpose fertilizer (low in nitrogen) in the spring to help give lilac a little boost. Also, add some compost and bone meal in and around the soil.
Can a lilac bush be planted in the shade? What shrubs can take a little shade?
Lilac plants do best in sun. However, there are many shrubs that can tolerate shade. This article should help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/shrubs/shgen/shade-loving-shrubs.htm
