This is my first time having liatris. Does it only bloom once? Was in bloom when I got it from the nursery. Bloom dried up but hasn't bloomed since.
You can get more blooms from liatris by deadheading the spent blooms. These articles should help you.

HOW TALL DO do liatris spicate get LIATRIS SPICATA GET HOW BIG OF A POT
Liatris spicata grows to 3-5 feet including the flower spike if you are growing the straight species. The hybrid Kobold grows to 18-24 inches. There are other hybrids so check the plant tag for the one you have. The plant will slowly expand if it has room or it can be divided. If you plan to keep it in the container for 2-3 years, use a container that is 9-12 inches diameter and 9 inches deep. The following link goes to an article on growing Liatris in containers. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/liatris/container-grown-liatris-plants.htm
The plant was healthy and green until I noticed the brown stalks when watering early this week. There are some flowers that are healthy.
Avoid overwatering these plants, and avoid overhead watering.
Allow the soil to dry between waterings.
If the issue continues, treat with a fungicide.

Most every plant with a flower stalk booms from bottom up. Why is Gayfeather different. There has to be some botanical explanation.
I consulted several sources and didn't see any explanation as to why they open from the top down other that they do. It appears that all varieties of liatris do open from the top down.
Here is a photographic article, that further shows the flowers open on one side first.
This article says that blooming from the top down extends the flowering period:

IN YOUR ARTICLE: Liatris Planting Information: How To Grow Liatris Blazing Star Liatris By: Nikki Tilley YOU mention planting in the fall -- any particular varieties & conditions for planting in the fall?????
In the article you site, Ms Tilley says that Liatris can be planted in the fall in some areas but she does not elaborate. Are you putting in plants or corms? I have transplanted Liatris in fall, essentially the same thing as planting. I like plants to have 6 weeks for roots to settle in before severe cold hits. Corms can be planted in autumn but are more often available in stores for springtime planting. I apologize for the confusion. If you have plants or corms now, feel free to put them in.
I’m wondering if there is something that I’m doing wrong?
Since they bloom from top to bottom on the spike, the fading blooms will start at the top, too. Is that what you are seeing? Otherwise, it could be overwatering. Liatris are drought tolerant and don't need a lot of water.
Once the entire spike fades, you can remove it from the base. However, leave the foliage till it dies back in fall.

My blooms are all brown. I'm in Fayetteville, GA
Our experts say liatris should be deadheaded down to the last few nodes. It probably won't bloom again until next year, but anything's possible.
