My ornamental kale was fertilized and heavily mulched in late march. I thought it died. I did not see my garden for approx. 6 months. At that time the kale I thought had died had formed a head, actually ,several heads,, and made a beautiful area over 3 feet in diameter display that was very beautiful. My question is how do I make this happen again? Linda sharp
Repeat the same process and hope for the same Winter weather!
I'm sure it is a stunning display!
I love Ornamental Kale, but have yet to repeat the same growth and show each year. Last year insects ate mine!

soil type, distance between plants is explained, but what "soil depth" is needed--in beds or in containers for Kale plant to grow?
What should I do with my kale now that it is in bloom?
Though you can consume the Kale after bolting, it may be more bitter and not as palatable.

my kale and collard green plants, constantly turn yellow all through the growing season.... what is the cause of that?
Yellowing could be caused by watering issues, but due to the fact that you are having this issue with different plants and you may have had this issue in past years, I would say a fungus issue.

I have treated the plant . Should I cut off the infected leaves I don't see any new growth.
Treat the plant with Neem Oil.
Neem Oil is organic and safe for people, pets and bees.
Yes, you can trim the damaged leaves from the plant. Try increasing the sunlight available to your plants.

Is there a companion plant for kale to help deter the damaging effects of the cabbage looper?
I would try marigold, or nasturtium! These two keep bugs away pretty will. You might even try citronella geraniums, as these are known to repel insect pests, as well. Here is a link that has even more methods: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/pesticides/repelling-bad-bugs-with-plants.htm
Since the extreme cold weather, my kale has turned tan around the edges. I think it got water logged during the month. the center is still deep purple. Should I feed a fertilizer & trim the dead outer growth??
You can trim the dying growth, but I would not feed until spring. This fertilizer would sit in the soil, and since it wouldn't be taken up through the winter it would sit in the soil. After awhile it will lock itself up in salt form and be unavailable to the plant. Although they can take the cold weather, you should either move it or cover it on the worst nights. Otherwise, It will recover just fine.
