My kalanchoe plant stems have become very long and some of the stems are turning brown at the bottom and extending farther up the plant. Am I overwatering - not enough light?? It was my mom's plant and I have had it about a year and 1/2. The tips of the stems are producing new leaves, but it is looking more like a vine plant and not very compacted. Suggestions?
Lack of proper light can cause your plant to become leggy. You can prune it back to shape the plant and keep it from becoming top heavy.
Make prune cuts at forked intervals or remove any branches that are wayward.
Flowers should be pinched off of the plant after blooming.

I'm doing a project for school that requires growing succulents, and I picked these plants up (see attached photos) at Home Depot but they weren't labeled. They have paddle shaped "leaves" and are kind of whitish. Can you tell me what they are called please? Thanks!
Mine are all indoors in proper draining planters with appropriate soil mix, etc. I bought a few not thinking they might die after blooming. I was told no by some. Now on the succulent groups many are saying they die after blooming. Are they confusing them with the hens n chicks which do? If so, I want to stick to plants that don't die after flowering for cost issues. Thank you
Many Kalanchoes that are sold in garden centers or floral shops are sold as a blooming indoor plant and they are generally grown to last 6 to 8 weeks of blooming for customers.
Many homeowners toss them after this time. You certainly can grow and maintain this plant as a house plant but reblooming may be quite difficult.

How do I grow my kalanchoe plants in the winter without sun?
Kalanchoe need a rest period and darkness during the winter months to force flowering in the spring.

Why is my Pink Butterfly so tall and lanky? And how can I get it to fill out?
Your plant is probably suffering from too little light. This article will help you:

Providing more light will likely help it fill out. You could also prune it back, and even use the pruned-off portion to make a cutting and propagate the plant according to these directions:

Is this a kalanchoe plant?
I believe you're correct. This does look like a kalanchoe plant.
I have them all in my house, and the only light is from a window, and in winter no sun, so I have small grow lights on them. Will they grow all right and bloom in the spring? I don't know what else to do with then in the winter. I live in a small mobile home so no garden. Help me please, I love the plants. Bernabela Cremers
Your plants look like they are doing well so far. Grow lights are definitely helpful. Since you have those and the window, I think your plants will get enough light. Other wintertime tips are to cut down on watering while the plants are indoors, watering when you feel the surface of the soil dry out, and to avoid fertilizing until spring.
