Have had this plant for three years and don't know what to do with the stocks that come with flowers on them. Must I cut the flowers and stock for better growth? Haven't removed any of the plant since it was planted. Help!
Taking the flowers off forces the plant to focus more on the roots, which is what you want to harvest, instead of flowers and then seeds. So it is helpful to prune the flowers and stalks.
Last April I cut the top from a horseradish, put it into water until it rooted and then planted it in my garden. It has lovely long leaves (12" high.). May I leave it in the ground to be dug up next spring? Can I repeat the process and can the side roots be planted separately at that time? Thank you!
Yes, you can leave it. Hopefully, you will also be taking care to keep the plant under control as well. Once the plant starts growing well, it can quickly become invasive. Should you cut back the leaves on horseradish in the fall or just leave them alone?
I would not trim the leaves as the plant will use the leaves to create the energy that it will then store in the roots, which results in a larger root. You can trim away any flowers that may appear though.
We made our first batch of horseradish last weekend and it has the heat we wanted but it lacks the sweetness/taste. We grew it in a big plastic trash can so it wouldn't take over the yard and watered it every day. This was our first attempt so any advice for next year would be appreciated.

When and how do I pull a plant to break off side shoots to make the plant larger?
You do not need to break off the sideshoots to make the plant larger. You can divide the plant and replant the sideshoots to make more plants and get a larger harvest.
Plant was looking really healthy but in the last couple weeks the outer leaves have started to dry out after a couple heavy rains.
Brown leaves are usually symptoms of under- or overwatering, and it sounds like the recent bout of rain that you've had could be the culprit here -- but there are other possibilities. This article outlines the common causes for leaf browning in vegetable plants and some remedies:

Do you trim down the leaves on horseradish plants in the late fall or just leave the browning leaves alone?
It is not necessary to trim back horseradish leaves. For neatness, you can trim back any leaves that have turned completely brown. Leave any green leaves on the plant so it can continue storing energy as late as possible.
