My Gunnera Manicata got frost damaged this winter, and now it’s stump looks quite dead, with no new growth on it (normally, by now, there would be quite large leaves). However, at the very bottom of the stump, there are a few tiny leaves pushing through, more like a new plants from the roots below. My question is, should I cut off the stump, which is unsightly, and looks dead, or is there a chance that there still may be some life in it? Many Thanks, Perar
If there is a replacement plant coming up, then it may be time to cut the dead stump out. Most plants will replace themselves if there is a threat of death. This is natural, and cannot be avoided sometimes.
Is gunners edible?
Our Gunnera has got so large, I have just removed about 50 Hugh Seed pods and cut down some of the leaves but need to make the plant smaller as it's taking over the pond. What should I cut through the runners with? They are about a foot thick.......
Sounds like a chainsaw is your best option for a foot thick! Otherwise, it would have to be a handsaw. Here is a link that will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/foliage/gunnera/growing-gunnera-plants.htm

We do not sell anything. We only offer gardening information.
My gunnera is about 2 years old and in a big pot
Leaf and flower damage could be caused by weather, pests and even animals. Are you keeping the soil moist? They take more water in a container.
Review the link below on care.

Do not water over the top
It may not be getting enough moisture, and you can wet the leaves, too. Here is more:
