This year during the winter our gardenia tree has developed a hard red growth 1/4 to 3/8 of an inch in the forks of several branch’s ... we noticed them in the winter and decide to leave them alone as they appeared to just be part of the tree. We are having a tremendous season for flowers and have experienced the largest blooms ...we will be trimming in another month and we are not sure if we should cut those branches and remove the hard red growths ......what are they?
Those are the beginning of seed pods. It will not hurt to cut them off, but if you leave them, then they will develop into seeds that you can harvest and plant. Will this hurt my gardenia?
Your gardenia will probably recover, but in the future, your gardenia only needs light pruning soon after a bloom cycle. You can remove dead or broken branches at any time. And it's best not to remove more than 1/3 of a shrub at any time.

It is a tree in a pot; did replant in bigger pot a few weeks after buying it; had some yellow leaves on bottom branches near main stem
Gardenia can be very finicky and the transplant may be the reason for the bud drop.

In the past it had powdery mildew and I sprayed it with a fungicide and it did well. Recently I noticed the bottom and inside leaves were exhibiting powdery mildew signs again. I used the same fungicide (same container) and it had been stored inside. Now the leaves are turning brown rapidly. Is this due to the fungicide or is something else going on. P.S. I did spray around 6:00 am so it was warm but not hot out.
This can be quite a complex issue. They can be a bit finicky about their environment. This article will help you to narrow down the issues so that you can find out exactly what is causing your issue: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/gardenia/brown-spots-gardenia-buds.htm
