Years ago someone told me the yellow bushes were called Broom. Now someone told me it is Forsythia. Are they the same?
No, different plant species.

Forsythia not blooming, or very few at base of shrub. I am in Cameron, MO - 5a zone, shrub planted between my home and neighbor's with plenty of room around it. Sunshine should be no problem as it gets east and west sun. I planted it about 3 years ago and it is growing, as I check branches and they are limber. I haven't pruned it since purchase. Should I, and when?
There are a couple reasons why your forsythia might not be blooming.
With the harsh winter we all have been having, are you seeing winter kill?
Perhaps your plant does need some pruning since it was planted 3 years ago. Blossoms form on 1 year old wood.

Someone gave me a start of a forsythia bush. It has bloomed in the past and looks very pretty but the past two years it quit blooming and goes right into green leaves.

How do I plant a Forsythia shrub?
You can plant a Forsythia any time of year that the ground is not frozen or freezing temperatures are not an issue.
Choose a full sun location with well draining soil.
Dig the planting hole at least two times wider then the root ball.
and the same depth.
Place the root ball and plant at the ground level or slightly above.
Backfill the planting hole and water.
Water new plantings well the first couple of weeks and then you can cut back.

I have a young forsythia I purchased about 4 weeks ago. I planted the 2 bushes yesterday. They are about 3 weeks past blooming. Can I, should I prune? If yes, how much? I got them after a home show in mid April. It was forced so it bloomed early for this climate.
I read that article but I wasn't sure if it was too late. This one was forced and bloomed about a month ago. I guess I'll give it a try but gently.
