42262Q.Growing S “dwarf” Peach Tree In A Half 55 Gallon Plastic Barrel.
We have a nearly 30 year old “dwarf” peach tree, (told its life would be 12-15 years), about 15’W x 26’T, next to our garden. Every year, from fallen and discarded fruit, we get baby peach trees in our garden. We have successfully transplanted and gotten fruit from a few. We would like to try putting some of the 20+ that have sprouted this spring into some 55 gallon plastic barrels that are cut in half. Mainly due to freezing preventing either insects not being available when blooming, blooms freezing off, or small fruit freezing off. We’ll put them on wheeled platforms for ease of movement into and out of a garage. We’re on the KY/TN border, west central. We’d appreciate any advice you can provide us about doing this, and any more information you may need, please ask. Bob

Certified ExpertA.In containers that big, you can treat them as you would in-ground. The good thing, here, is that you can use good soil or amend your own for the container.
