Help! I've been tasked with looking after my friend's plants while they take a sabbatical, and they're mostly fine except for this one. It started looking upset when I returned from a three-week trip over Christmas, I suspect maybe it wasn't getting enough light and perhaps having the heating off didn't help either. We've just had a really cold spell and now a couple of its branches have completely collapsed. I think it's a Dracaena of some kind, and I've attached some photographs so you can see what's happening. If you have any advice it would be greatly appreciated! Kind regards, Kayleigh
Three weeks is a long time to be without proper light and watering. The one with green still on can survive, but will take a very long time to recover. The ones with the stem bent are likely dead. The last one will just need to be cared for until it returns to health. The others will likely have to be thrown out.
Can this plant be pruned it it only has one head? It only has one stem.
My dracaena has a 1 inch portion of healthy root system protruding from an hole in bottom of pot; Can I just cut that off or do I need to re-pot entire plant to larger pot without harm to exposed root system?
You can cut off the protruding root. However, if the plant has grown too big for its pot, it's best to either repot it in a larger pot (a few inches larger diameter) or to prune it down to a more manageable size. One sign that it's too large for the pot is if the soil in the whole pot goes dry again just a couple days after you've thoroughly watered it.
Hi there, I have what I think is a dragon palm - it is looking very sick... It's leaves have gone brown and it has lost a lot of leaves. I am thinking the soil is too wet? Is there anything I can do to help it come right? Cheers Damien
Although these are labeled as palm.. They actually aren't. These are sensitive to bright sun. I notice you have them outside, which would be the reason they are bleaching. I believe that they are just receiving way too much light. Move these plants to a fully shaded location, or dig them up and put them in container.
I was told it was a Christmas Catcus.
This is a Dracaena.

Is the Dracaena plant posinous for my cat?
Yes, this is toxic to cats. Please make sure to keep it out of reach. Here is a link for more information: http://www.petpoisonhelpline.com/poison/dracaena/
We have a lovely Dracaena plant on our balcony. Now that the weather is getting chillier, can we bring it inside? We have a domestic cat in our home. Do you know if is it non-poisonous to the cat?
Dracaena plants are known to be toxic for cats if ingested.
