We have 3 Dogwood trees, plus a Japanese Dogwood. They are watered well all summer, went into the fall/winter with many buds, as usual. But I noticed about a week ago that most of the buds are gone. Have never had this happen. They are all about 15 years old or more. Puzzled! Rose Heger
Inspect the trees for any other signs of disease.
I do think this is most likely an environmental issue. Most likely a cold snap or drop in temperature caused the buds to drop.
The fact that all of your trees are effected points to this direction.

When is the best time to transplant dogwood trees. It's currently planted in the wrong location and would look and grow much better in the center of the yard. My hand can still wrap around the trunk. It has many blooms now. Its about 7 feet tall and around 5 or 6 feet in diameter.

Why do my Dogwoods planted early spring in partial sun( morning) grow there pretty little leaves and then the leaves immediately turn brown? I have kept water properly , as I 've read, to help establish but no luck. Grandma always said I could grow a dead twig but this tree seems to turn into just that after a few weeks.
Are you watering long and deep enough? Young trees and new plantings need plenty of water. Is the soil well draining? If your watering well, but the leaves are still turning brown and dropping, the tree could be suffering root rot.
