I have bought some ‘Garden Ready’ plants from a well-known on-line retailer. Delphinium Magic Fountains Mix 15 Garden Ready Plants Delphinium M Fountain Blue White Bee 15 Garden Ready Plants Dicentra Collection 3 Jumbo Plugs Echinacea Primadonna Mixed (PowWow) 15 Garden Ready Plants The plants arrived about one month but I was not ready to plant them and have potted them on – see attached. I will have room in my garden this autumn but would it be better to wait and plant these next spring? If waiting is the best option, can I keep them unprotected outside? I don’t have a greenhouse but could store the plants in my conservatory if necessary. Keeping them in the conservatory is not idea, as its gets rather cluttered in Winter. Regards Pete
I believe this is a good time of year to plant new perennials, now that the hottest part of summer has passed. It may do your herbaceous perennials some good to vernalize over winter.
My delphiniums have lost all their lower buds before flowering, only a few at the spiky top. Is it the weather or are they being eaten by something? Maybe birds?
It definitely could be birds! There is a chance that it could be a nutrient imbalance or a pH issue, as well. Fortunately there are some things that you can do.

I bought delphinium, already in bloom with a long spike with flowers and a small cluster of flowers at the base. Do I need to remove the spike that now looks finished? how do I prune or deadhead this plant?
Yes, you can prune the spikes when the blooms fade for perennial delphinium. You may get a second showing later. Here is more:

If you have the annual larkspur, also called delphinium, you can leave the bloom stalks so they will go to seed. Then they will return next spring.

Hello! I'm in zone 4b, (maybe 5 now?) in MN and planted delphiniums last fall. I noticed some bud and leaves are popping up. Typically the last hard frost here is May 10 but looking at the weather it looks somewhat 'warm' at night. Do I fertilize the delphiniums and stake them now with bud growth forming? Or is there a key time to fertilize these when more leaves appear? Do I also need to spread compost around the perimeter along with the fertilizer? Thank you!
You can fertilize now with compost or use a general fertilizer such as a slow release 10-10-10. Here is more on their care:
