Q.How To Deadhead Delphiniums

Zone 51106 | Anonymous added on June 11, 2024 | Answered

I bought delphinium, already in bloom with a long spike with flowers and a small cluster of flowers at the base. Do I need to remove the spike that now looks finished? how do I prune or deadhead this plant?

Yes, you can prune the spikes when the blooms fade for perennial delphinium. You may get a second showing later. Here is more:

If you have the annual larkspur, also called delphinium, you can leave the bloom stalks so they will go to seed. Then they will return next spring.
