Is Larkspur the same as Delphinium? I think not. I grow Larkspur, species unknown. It is beautiful and does well until about May when the weather gets too warm for it. I am a Master Gardener at Montgomery County Agrilife Extension Service. We are offering my Larkspur in our spring sale this Sat., 3-21-15. The gal who makes the labels put Delphinium on the tags. I read that they are two different plants (Larkspur and Delphinium), although they are probably "kin" to one another. Do you know if they are the same plant or two different plants? Thank you, Debra
They are actually different plant species, as explained in the following article:

Why has my Delphinium grown like this?

This is my first year to grow Larkspur. I grew it from seed. It seems to be coming up fine; however, it looks like it's going to be very short. We've had an unusually hot summer, just had 19 days in a row of 90+ temps. Could that be the reason? It's only about 6 inches tall now and has buds forming at the top. I'm wondering if using the liquid Miracle Grow more will help. Any advice?
Warm temps may have stunted the stem length on your plants.
You can apply a fertilizer at 1/4 strength about 4 weeks after germination.
Use a 12-12-12 balanced formula.

What is the proper way to promote a second flowering of delphiniums? Do I pinch the whole stalk below the last flower shoot to the next healthy leaf or pinch each individual flower bud (seed pod) leaving the stalk? If this is the case, would I pinch below the bud leaving the stem or pinch the whole stem as well?

Are larkspurs poisonous to humans
when should i transplant into the garden?I've had them potted up from plugs for 5 weeks. out during the day in at night. They are approx 5" tall. It is now mid June
Now - the stocks should flower, but I doubt if your delphiniums will flower this year. Mine are over 6 feet tall and have about a week of flowers left. Cut them down late autumn and then leave them in over winter and they will all bit disappear, but should start to grow again when the soil starts to warm up. They should last a good few years.
