I have had two in pots for 15 years and they have died so I cut them down but one was to high for me to pull the top down , it is not connected to anything but it is growing onthe top of the wall and has flowers on it , How can that happen ?
The size of your vine was amazing! The diameter of the branches will actually sustain the smaller growth for some time, it will slowly decline.
We have three climbing hydrangea. It has been four seasons and still no blooms on any. The plants climb, look leafy green, but will not bloom. Should we just cut them down?
You may have too much nitrogen in your soil.
Have a soil test done, your County Extension Office for a soil test.
Phosphorous can help boost flowering; an application of Bone Meal is an easy way to do this.

This is the third growing season for my climbing hydrangea and even though the leaves are quite abundant and healthy-looking; there are no blooms on this very thick climbing vine. Does it need fertilizer in order to bloom?

I planted two climbing hydrangea 3 years ago in 2 large containers (36"x12x12) on my balcony facing south. They are healthy and this year has started producing flowers. The problem is training them on the trellis (see attached photo). So far none of them seem to attach themselves to the trellis. The containers are right up against the metal railing. There's a small gap between the metal railings and the upper glass wall. The trellis is attached at the top to the glass wall on either side but not attached at the lower end. The lower end of the trellis is about 6" above the bottom of the glass wall. Do I need to attach and secure the lower end of the trellis to make it more stable and secure? I am wondering if I need a better and bigger trellis? The plants seem to know there's support on the window side as there's where most of the new growth occurs but yet they are just not attaching themselves to either the trellis, the window wall or the metal railing.
You may need to help them attach to the structure.

I moved into my house about 4 years ago so I inherited a number of shrubs one of which is a climbing white hydrangea which produces massive flowerheads but only blooms round the edges of the flowerhead and the rest doesnt bloom at all.Any new growth is coming from old wood which is extremely gnarled. There is lots of new growth coming from all the old wood and the whole plant looks very healthy. It has had bone meal dug in round the base, granular and liquid tomato food at different times and has been checked for vine weevil.I have always allowed it to die back over the winter. I have never pruned it.it seems to me that it is using a lot of energy to produce many healthy shoots and flowerheads but doesnt seem able to bloom fully. Please can you help? Sorry I can't upload a photo.
There are varieties of hydrangea that have been developed to bloom only around the edge of the flower cluster. Sounds like you have one of these varieties.
How do I remove the tentacles from side if th house
Vines can be quite damaging to a homes exterior siding.
I would consult with the siding manufacturer to ensure you do no damage the finish.
